We represent companies and individuals in all civil matters
Matt Smith has practiced law in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area since 2005. He represents clients in various aspects of civil litigation including breach of contract, wrongful discharge/discrimination and hostile work environment claims, contested probates and trust administration, and property damage matters. He also provides both debtor and creditor services in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
Matt is admitted to practice in all Oklahoma state courts as well as the Northern, Eastern, and Western districts of Oklahoma, the Southern district of Texas, and the district of Colorado. Mr. Smith graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2001 Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Letters. He then graduated from the University of Oklahoma Joint Juris Doctorate / Masters of Business Administration program in 2005.
Matt is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, Oklahoma County Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association. He is member of the District Council of the Downtown YMCA of Oklahoma City and a member of the Downtown Exchange Club of Oklahoma City.
Taylor received his B.B.A in finance from Texas Christian University in 2015. While attending Texas Christian University, Taylor was a member of the Horned Frog’s varsity cross country and track & field teams, where he earned multiple Academic All-Big 12 conference honors. Taylor went on to attend law school at the University of Tulsa where he graduated with a joint Juris Doctorate and Masters of Business Administration degree in 2018, earning Highest Honor.
While in law school, Taylor was a member of the Energy Law Journal. His case note, Haphazard Federal Rule making Meets Judicial Review: Ballast Water Regulation Receives no Deference to Agency Interpretation, was selected for publication in the 2018 edition of the Journal. Additionally, as a law student, Taylor gained experience in civil litigation and energy law as an intern at Continental Resources, Inc., and in business valuation during an internship at Hogan Taylor LLP. After passing the Bar, Taylor hit the ground running practicing civil litigation at an insurance defense firm in Oklahoma City. Taylor’s practice primarily focused on defending hospitals and health care providers against malpractice claims.
Taylor’s practice at Criterion Law focuses on all aspects of civil litigation. Taylor is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of the State of Oklahoma, the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Taylor is also a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Oklahoma County Bar Association.
